General Education RequirementsPlease visit the UA General Education FAQ page for detailed course descriptions and links to course lists. A detailed explanation of General Education requirements, including how to choose appropriately, can be found in the Academic Catalog (including honors options). Tier One:The prefix for Tier one classes changed beginning with the Fall 2011 semester. A list with comparisons of the former titles (listed below - XXXX indicates department prefix) and how they correlate to the new prefixes can be found here: Table of Tier I new course titles. Be careful NOT to repeat courses with the same number and letter. EX: if you choose a PSY 150A, do not choose another 150A class for your second gen ed in the 150 category. Natural Science – Not required for Engineering degrees, met by requirements in major Tier Two:Individuals and Societies – 1 course (3 units) Arts OR Humanities – 1 course (3 units) This link will take you to the Tier II course descriptions.

In Addition to the Above RequirementsOne course focusing on a non-Western culture, or gender, race, class, or ethnicity is required. This may be fulfilled through an appropriate Tier One or Tier Two course, as indicated in the Academic Program Requirements Report for your degree program. All TRAD 101 courses are non-Western in focus and satisfy this requirement. There are also some Tier Two Individuals and Societies and Arts and Humanities courses that satisfy this requirement. New, Incoming Freshman Transfer Coursework Incoming Freshman with dual enrollment course credit(s), IB or AP credit(s) who have submitted official transcripts, you will find the coursework has been included in your Transfer Credit Report in your UAccess account. If, after generating an Academic Requirements Report in your UAccess account, the courses are not poplating the correct general education requirement fields, please send an email to ENGR-EngineeringAdvising@email.arizona.edu. The subject line should be General Education Review and the body of the email should include your name, student ID number and major/intended major. If you are in the Honors College, you do have additional options for your general education courses. Please review the information found on the Honors College website.New, Incoming Transfer Student Transfer Coursework AGEC – Arizona General Education Curriculum If you have an AGEC certification, your General Education requirements are completed. If you did not request a General Education review when you first came into the College of Engineering by following the instructions in your Next Steps/Transfer Student Academic Preveiw, contact the college general education advisor using ENGR-EngineeringAdvising@email.arizona.edu. The subject line should be General Education Review and the body of the email should include your name, student ID number and major/intended major. Transfering a General Education Course from Another InstitutionIf you are planning on taking a course at another university or community college within Arizona, you must obtain approval through the college advisor located in the Engineering Academic Affairs office in the Engineering building. Prior approval will insure the course you are taking fulfills your general education requirement. Failure to obtain prior consent may result in non-acceptance of the transfer course for general education requirements. For a review/request email ENGR-EngineeringAdvising@email.arizona.edu. Please use your UA email account and include your name, student ID number, current major, course title and description if you have already chosen courses you are interested in. We cannot approve courses for students who are not current students in the College of Engineering. If attending an another university or community college outside of Arizona, you must complete the Transfer Pre-Approval form and you must obtain authorization through the college advisor in the Engineering Academic Affairs Office in the Engineering building.
