Cloudy Situation: An Engineering Grand Challenge in the Atmosphere
Beautiful red sunsets, cooler temperatures, rainfall, and relief from an asthma attack – these are all ways microscopic particles called aerosols affect our everyday lives. Climate change may be one of the most pressing grand challenges impacting Earth and its growing population. Most uncertain in the climate change problem is the role of aerosol particles, especially how they interact with clouds. This talk showcase cutting edge research taking place to understand the nature and effects of airborne particles, including especially how they communicate with the mysterious clouds above our heads.
