
EMPOWER
First-year engineering students are invited to participate in Engineering Mentors Promoting Outreach, Wellness, Education, and Respect (EMPOWER) and support the outreach mission of the College of Engineering ENGAGED program.
Within local K12 schools, EMPOWERed Leaders inspire K-12 students to explore STEM careers by engaging with the community, leading culturally relevant campus visits, and facilitating interactive STEM activities.
As an EMPOWERed Leader you will contribute to this mission by engaging in the following activities:
- Create and prepare new hands-on STEM activities to engage aspiring engineers,
- Lead hands-on activities and campus visits in a culturally relevant, engaging, and inclusive manner,
- Obtain Certifications in 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, and soldering.
EMPOWER Leaders receive a $900 stipend during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
The ideal candidate must:
- Be currently enrolled as a first year student at the UofA College of Engineering
- Commit to working the whole academic year (both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025)
- Have a creative, outgoing, and positive mindset
